Washing with soap and clean running water is the recommended first aid step. Cleaning the bite area removes irritants and reduces the risk of infection by flushing away bacteria from the skin. After cleansing, you can apply a cold pack wrapped in a cloth to help with swelling and pain, and cover with a clean dressing if needed to keep the area clean. Avoid squeezing the bite or applying home remedies, and monitor for signs that would require medical attention, such as spreading redness, increasing pain, fever, or other worsening symptoms.
